A Convo with Beatrice Dixon of The Honey Pot Co

A Convo with Beatrice Dixon of The Honey Pot Co

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you started The Honey Pot Co? Where did the name ‘Honey Pot’ originate from?

My name is Beatrice Dixon and I am the Co-Founder of The Honey Pot Company, a plant-derived feminine care company. I started The Honey Pot Company after dealing with BV for eight months. I had a dream with an ancestor and she gave me a list of ingredients and I woke up and made the formula. Within a few days, all of my symptoms were gone and I knew I had something special.

The name The Honey Pot came about when I was driving around Atlanta and I happened to come across a telephone poll with a flyer stapled to it that showcased The Honey Pot band. I loved the name.

What sparked your interest in natural feminine hygiene?

Honestly it was all about necessity. Necessity is the mother of invention. I had a need to find products that worked and were clean and natural and there just weren’t any good options on the market at the time so I became the change in the world that I wanted to see.

How did you use your experience as a pharmacy technician to formulate your products & decide which ingredients to use/not to use?

I took my pharmacy tech background and focused on how certain ingredients work well together and also delved deeply into the world of herbal medicine and learned how to formulate herbal tonics and concoctions that are effective and healthy. I spent countless hours researching and experimenting with natural formulas so that I made sure to create products that I felt good about putting out into the world.

Can you tell us more about the ingredients found in THPC products and why they are specifically beneficial for female care (down there)?

Almost all of our products include lavender, coconut oil, and rose. We also include apple cider vinegar, garlic extract, grapefruit seed extract and aloe in some of our products. They all serve different purposes. Some of the herbs are antibacterial while others are antifungal. Some herbs and botanicals are anti-inflammatory and others are calming. I handpick each ingredient whenever I am formulating products because I am well aware of the benefits they provide and how they work well together.

What difficulties did you face while starting THPC?

I faced countless challenges and still do. From funding to hiring to expansion to Covid-19, there have been a myriad of challenges that have kept me on my toes but I look at each challenge as a chance to stretch myself and grow. I discovered that I have much more tenacity, resourcefulness and strength than I sometimes realize when I overcome challenges.

What advice do you have for other entrepreneurs?

Start with an idea or a passion that lights you up. Don’t launch a business just for the sake of launching a business. Too many people want to be business owners but don’t really know why. Find your passion and then focus on building the best products or services possible. Do your research. See where there is white space in your line of business and work your ass off to provide a best in class experience and offering that differentiates you from everyone else. Grow your business online first and create a strong following via social media so you can leverage this success if and when you decide to expand your business.

Lastly, what’s in store for the future of THPC & where can readers follow along with your work?

We are rolling out a ton of new innovations next year that will once again help us change yet another category that has needed some new life for a while. We’re also launching a podcast in 2021 so we’re super excited about that! You can follow us at @thehoneypotco on IG and @thehoneypotcomp on Twitter and @thehoneypotcompany on Facebook!
