I really like clothes with quality fabric and construction. I’d never heard of Mate, but I was looking to buy some nice loungewear to upgrade my stay-at-home parent uniform a little. I LOVE this top. The fit is definitely relaxed, but also smart and flattering—no burlap sack vibes—and again, good construction goes a long way here. I’m nonbinary and am very much here for the androgynous look of this top, but I think it could be easily styled into a cool girl look, too, if that’s more your speed.
The texture of the fabric is a bit like a lightweight terry with subtle visual interest in the weave. It’s got a bit of a coarse-woven bespoke feel to it. It’s extremely breathable and comfortable, not super fuzzy and soft but also not stiff or scratchy at all. Note that it’s not very warm—this one is good for fall layering, but between the somewhat cropped length and the less-dense weave of the fabric, it won’t stand alone as the days get chilly. Plan your outfits accordingly.
Anyways, I wear this immediately every time it’s clean and just bought a second one in another color. I love it. It looks like it’ll hold up to grabby toddler hands, too!
