Sea-to-Skin Comfort: The Seacell Tencel Collection

At MATE, we’re always searching for materials that care as much about your skin as they do about the planet. Our latest innovation, the Seacell Tencel Collection, blends oceanic nourishment with plant-powered performance—designed to be gentle on you and the planet.

Crafted Clean from Seaweed

The Seacell Tencel Collection is made from a fabric featuring a blend of seaweed-based fiber (Seacell), wood-based Fiber (Tencel™), and elastane. The seaweed is responsibly harvested from the fjords of Iceland, where only regenerative portions of the plant are collected to preserve marine ecosystems. That’s paired with Standard 100 OEKO-TEX certified TENCEL™—a renewable, wood-based fiber sourced from sustainably managed eucalyptus farms in Austria.

Why Seacell Tencel?

Seacell Tencel isn’t just soft—it’s smart. Infused with vitamins, minerals, and amino acids from seaweed, this fabric delivers natural skincare benefits directly to your skin as you wear it. Here’s what sets it apart:

Skincare

Seaweed contains amino acids, vitamins and minerals that are beneficial for the skin.

Anti-Irritation

The seaweed fiber is proven to be compatible with human skin cells (keratinocytes).

Anti-Bacterial

The presence of Tencel eliminates bad bacteria in our skin, preventing infections and odor.

Quick Dry

The presence of Tencel keeps skin dry by rapid evaporation of sweat.

A Closer Look at the Process

Creating Seacell is a mindful journey from sea to skin:

1. Selective Seaweed Harvesting: Only the regenerative parts of the plant are collected from Iceland’s sparsely populated fjords.

2. Closed-Loop Manufacturing: Seaweed is gently dried, ground, and added to a wood-cellulose solution in a zero-waste, non-toxic process similar to lyocell.

3. Permanent Benefits: Unlike topical treatments, the fiber's skincare properties are locked in and remain even after multiple washes.

Traceable. Responsible. Renewable.

We believe in full transparency. Our Seacell Tencel fabric is knitted by PYRATEX®, one of our trusted factory partners leading the way in sustainable innovation.

Meet PYRATEX®

PYRATEX® is a textile innovation company that focuses on replacing synthetic fabrics with high-performance, natural alternatives. Based in Spain with localized production in Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Mexico, they offer traceable, certified materials that minimize environmental impact and maximize skin-friendly benefits.

Their certified supply chain (GOTS, GRS, OEKO-TEX, Bluesign, FSC, and PEFC) ensures ethical sourcing and responsible production from fiber to final fabric. Their approach replaces harmful synthetics with materials that work with your body—not against it.

The Tides Are Changing

Our Seacell Tencel Collection is more than a feel-good fabric. It’s a commitment to innovation, comfort, and conscious design. We’re proud to introduce a new wave of sustainability—sea-to-skin comfort that works as hard for your body as it does for the planet.
